Welcome to Hall 3!
Staying away from home for the first time can be nerve wrecking, but fear not! We're here to provide you with some simple survival tips.
Basic Survival Tips:
The things you need to know
The Necessities
Bedsheets, pillows, blankets, and toiletries. These are a must when you're staying in your home away from home. Oh, and bring some additional clothes hangers too!
Bed sizes are as follows: 36" x 76" x 8"
Laundry
Nobody likes doing laundry, but honestly, it's not that bad! We have washing machines and dryers in every block, and if you prefer to hang dry your clothes, just peg them on the grills outside your windows! So bring your detergent, clothes pegs, and even softener if you'd like. Washing machines are $1 per cycle and dryers are $1 for every 30 minute cycle. (The machines only take the new $1 coins, so stock up!)
Cleaning
Even though we have incredibly amazing uncles and aunties that clean the overall hall, they do not clean individual rooms. That responsibility lies with you, the resident. It's inevitable that your room will become dirty and dusty, so bring some cleaning tools! Brooms, floor wipes, even vacuums are useful in keeping your room nice and clean.
Food
Even though we have a few canteens providing a variety of food options nearby, sometimes eating the same things over and over again can be a bore. So bring some snacks and maybe some food to cook in the pantries and kitchenettes of every block, equipped with a microwave oven and induction cooker. Remember to bring your own pots and pans as well as plates and utensils.
Refrigerators are also a handy device to keep in your room. All residents are allowed to fit their room with a refrigerator (maximum height 1.2m) at a fee of $80 per semester.
Get to Know Your Neighbours
Living in hall can be lonely if you don't know the people around you. That's why every year, Hall 3 organises the Freshmen Orientation Programme to kickstart the new academic year, helping freshmen and returning seniors get to know one another. If you've missed FOP, don't worry, there's also the Freshmen Welcome Dinner! If you've missed that too, don't worry (again), there are plenty of events held all year round, organised by the JCRC, for all residents to get to know each other!
Internet
There's FREE internet in SCHOOL?!?! Why yes! There is free WiFi all over campus. However, WiFi is pretty much non-existent once you enter your room. But thanks to the invention of Internet cables, you can now have Internet access in your room! Just remember to bring a ethernet cable! (And your computer.)
It's too HOT!
Lucky for you, all rooms in Hall 3 are fitted with air conditioners. To use these air conditioners, you have to buy a prepaid air conditioner card. Top up these cards at the main lobby with your ATM or Nets card, and you can turn on these bad boys.

Keeping Fit
Ever heard of the Freshmen 15? It's real. But there's a way to keep fit and fight the gain! Bring your running shoes and some clothes for exercising. Hall 3 has a basic gym for your use. Don't like running in the gym? There are running routes known to all NTU students. Check it out over here.
Hall 3 has it's very own running track as well. Specially designed and well situated, the Hall 3 roundabout is guaranteed to give you the same experience as running the track at the NTU Sports and Recreations Centre. You'll just need to run a few more rounds.
Missing Home?
We'd like to think that Hall 3, in itself, is a family. But we all know what's it's like to miss home. Bring photos of your family and friends and pin them up on your cork-board. Every room is fitted with one! So bring some thumbtacks and start pinning!
Internet
Cables too mainstream? Bring a router! Just don't give anyone your password.
Keeping Pets
All Halls have a strict policy against keeping animals. However, we have found a loophole. Bugs and lizards are 'A' Okay*! Feel free to keep these little critters in your room, so long as your roommate and neighbours don't mind. Otherwise, they will use bug spray, and we don't want that, now do we?
Smells like Teen Spirit
Do you smell that? It's the sweet stench of living alone. Bring some air fresheners to keep your room smelling like you've had a professional clean the room.
It's Midnight
Feeling hungry? It's normal. But having friends that can drive is the best thing anyone can ask for. Delicious supper can be bought at Pioneer MRT, such as the famous Ah Lian Bee Hoon, or at the Pioneer Extension.
Feeling too lazy to go out of campus to get your supper fix? Well fret not! Hall 3 is conveniently located near Canteen 13, home of NTU's latest supper hotspot, Raydy Bee Hoon, an initiative by a group of NTU students. You ain't a Hall 3 resident unless you try their bee hoon. Its good, you won't regret it.
Supper can also occasionally be bought from canvasing events by the various committees in Hall 3, and you can even have he food delivered to the comfort of your room! Do show your support for our fellow Hall 3 Lions when these events come. :)
Getting to Class
Walking to class is no big deal. Hall 3 is next to NIE, down the road from ADM, and pretty near the North and South Spine. But if you're feeling lazy, you can always walk down to the bus stop at Hall 12 and take the Red Line! You can also walk to the Lee Wee Nam Bus Stop and take the Red Line! Bus routes can be found here.
Safety in Spares
It can be a hassle to bring your chargers back and forth from home, so some friendly advice would be to have a spare in hall!
Fancy Pants
If you like to party, then bring some nice clothes with you. You will never be not able to find some party peeps. Just keep a strobe light** flashing on your door to tell everyone that you're a party animal.
Master Chef
Feeling bold? Too popular and can't eat anymore steamboat? Or just sick of canteen food? Don't forget about the handy pantries and kitchenettes. Stocked with induction cookers and microwaves, you can create your own fancy meal. Here's just some of the quick and easy recipes for you to try out! Looking for more? Not a problem! We've set up a google search just for you!
(We advise that you bring and use your own pots and pans for hygiene purposes)
Disclaimer: Hall 3 cannot be held responsible for any forms of bad cooking.

*Please do not keep bugs and lizards, that was a joke. Haha, it was hilarious. Look, I'm laughing! Seriously though, don't keep them.
**Again, don't do this, you'll look like a douche.
